First question

Who are you and what is your role?

My name is Nick Tunney and I am an Account Manager in the B2B team at Square in the Air. My job is to look after some of our fantastic clients who work within the sportsbook and casino world and make sure I am providing them with the best content possible and putting their brand firmly in the spotlight!

Second question

You’re an avid QPR fan, however you used to report on Watford, Wycombe and Reading in your past role. How did you find that and what was your highlight?

I have some fantastic memories as a sports reporter, across a range of local newspapers in the Home Counties. Reporting on Wycombe when they got promoted from League 2 to League 1 in 2018 was a real highlight. Being on the pitch at the end with manager Gareth Ainsworth (a QPR legend and now our manager!) and the players was an unforgettable moment. Also, reporting on Watford’s run to the FA Cup final in 2019 was fantastic. Winning the semi-final against Wolves in such dramatic circumstances was unreal before they sadly came a cropper to a Kevin De Bruyne-inspired Manchester City in the final. I loved being in that world of sports reporting for three years and made many friends and memories in that time.

Third question

You confess to being a sports nut in your website bio, what are the three sports you couldn’t live without and why?

Football, cricket and golf - the Holy Trinity! Have played all three since I was young with varying degrees of skill! I still occasionally play 5-a-side football with my mates but it takes me months to recover from a 40 minute game! I love playing golf and have got my handicap down to 18 and the aim is to get that down further over the next year but one bad round and the clubs go back in the garage for a long time! I love watching all three, especially live. I am a QPR season ticket holder so I go to every home game and a fair few away, leaving my wife a football widow. Watching the cricket is extremely exciting, especially with how the men’s and women’s England teams are currently playing and tuning into the golf is very relaxing. Seeing the world’s best players struggle in knee-deep rough doesn’t make me feel quite so bad!

Fourth question

You love to go on walks in the countryside, do you have a favourite spot or route you like to take and any photos to share of your adventures?

Living in Hertfordshire, I am extremely lucky with the amount of amazing walks right on our doorstep. Ivinghoe Beacon, Heartwood Forest, strolling along the canal in Berkhamsted or even a leisurely meander through the picturesque city of St Albans are walks my wife and I go on regularly. The main thing is to ensure there is always a pint waiting at the end of it!

Fifth question

QPR narrowly escaped relegation last season, if you were recruited as their new manager, what would you change first and why?

Making sure the players know how much the fans care about the club. Supporting QPR isn’t like supporting Man Utd or Man City. We don’t expect success but as long as the players give 110% in every game, then the fans can’t grumble. Also, I would get Adel Taarabt back for a season. An absolute genius. The season we won the Championship title in 2011 was magical. He was managed brilliantly by Neil Warnock and I reckon he would do well under my management if we could get him back for one last dance!

Sixth question

The famous SITA Summer Party is coming up next week, who have you got on your team and how do you think they’ll perform on the go-karting track?

I have got Mark Armitage and Ollie Drew on Team Hamilton with me! I reckon they are two petrolheads and I am a bit of a lead boot myself so I am expecting big things and the champagne to be flowing at the end!

Seventh question

What other hobbies do you have besides being a sports nut?

I do enjoy a good crime novel these days. I never used to read at all but my better half is an avid reader of some best sellers and many other novels. I then borrowed a series of Peter James books from my father-in-law during lockdown in 2020 and am addicted to them. If you watch ITV on Sunday evenings, the books have been adapted into the crime drama, Grace, which is very good. Think I have read about a dozen now and reading the odd chapter or two in the evening is good for the mind.

Final Question

And a quickfire to finish - Who’s winning the Championship next year?

Always the optimist, I will say us by 15 points and have it wrapped up by Easter. Being a realist, you can’t look past Leicester. Signing Conor Coady and Harry Winks is a big statement of intent and I would be surprised if they aren’t top come May.
