First question
Who are you and what is your role?
Senior Account Director. Handling consumer PR and social media for our sports betting and horse racing clients.
Second question
You’re one of the SITA veterans, how has the company developed since you joined 7 and a half years ago?
Veteran - ouch! From a team of around 10 when I joined to over 50 now, Square in the Air has grown so much. I joined as an Account Executive with little to no PR knowledge and have enjoyed carving out my career at a hugely progressive company.
Third question
What’s your best memory or experience you’ve had at SITA so far?
From Hong Kong to Saudi Arabia, Paris-Longchamp in France and of course our brilliant venues in the UK like Cheltenham, Aintree, Ascot and Epsom, I’ve been lucky enough to visit some exciting places whilst working at SITA, but the best memory was maybe visiting Aidan O’Brien’s breathtaking Ballydoyle yard ahead of the 2022 Derby.
Fourth question
The only Chelsea season-ticket holder at SITA, what’s the most memorable game you’ve attended?
Plenty of great days at the Bridge, but the most memorable came at the Nou Camp. Coming back from 2-0 down away from home to knock Barcelona out of the Champions League tops them all.
Fifth question
You recently ran the Brighton Trail Marathon, with over 1000m elevation gain and a sub 5 hour time, how did you find it and any other events in the pipeline?
Horrific. Stitches on both sides of my body from about 25km in with two big hill climbs to go made it very tough. That said, I’m looking into booking onto another marathon this summer, albeit a nice flat one :)
Sixth question
You captain your local rugby team, how long have you done that for and what do you enjoy most about it?
I’ve been skipper of the Old Glynonians, who play in the 9th tier of the RFU league system, since 2017. Rugby’s a tough game, but one where the more you put in the more you get out. So, when you’ve led a team through 80 mins and the final whistle blows you get a huge sense of satisfaction. The beers after are fun too :)
Seventh question
You’re frequently telling stories about your best bakes and dishes, what is your favourite dish to cook?
Though finishing third in The Great SITA Bake Off two years running, I’m not a huge baker, but I do love cooking. Slow cooked meats - beef skirt chillis, oxtail ragus and lamb shoulder curries are my kind of thing. Also love a BBQ - but it can’t be gas!!
Eight question
You’re from Epsom, what was it like having the Epsom Derby on your doorstep, is that how you fell in love with racing?
Pretty much. I often went to Derby Day as a kid, with a BBQ on the Downs and my parents putting a few bets on for me! The Derby is always the biggest race in the calendar for me.
Final Question
And finally, greatest sporting star - go.
Roger Federer hands down. Is there anyone who was as good at their sport as he was?
