Square Roots

SQUARE ROOTS: Jasmine Jones

Who are you and what is your role at SITA?

I’m Jasmine and I am a Senior Account Executive on the very talented B2B team at Square in the Air.

2. You are known as a big fan of the outdoors. What appeal does hiking up mountains carry for you?

I am absolutely not a city girl that’s for sure. Give me a mountain, a bit of green, and ideally some sunshine, and I’m in my element. There’s nothing quite like a super early start, walking whilst it’s still dark, and then waiting at the top with your breakfast when the sunrise hits. My favourite place to go is the Brecon Beacons; if you’ve never taken on Pen y Fan at sunrise or wandered the Four Waterfalls trail, consider this your official nudge to add them to your 2026 list.

3. Sport is another of your passions. What are the highest highs and lowest lows you’ve experienced following Liverpool and Wales?

This is a dangerous question given Liverpool’s recent run of form. But we did clinch the league so early last season that it actually happened on my birthday, which made for a very fun weekend.

Supporting Wales is a sport in itself. It’s been an emotional rollercoaster the last decade, but I think that makes it more fun. Cardiff City Stadium on international match days has an insane atmosphere and I have to say as I’m writing this, I’m still riding the high of that very casual, totally normal, 7-1 win we just had in qualifying. Euro 2016 will forever be the moment though. Living in Cardiff during the 2022 World Cup was also incredible – the first World Cup for the country in 64 years, the streets were packed with fans and wherever you went a literal sea of bucket hats were bobbing around. Pure carnage for the Wales v England game too!

I’m a big rugby lover too, even though that’s also in a questionable era. I used to work behind the bar at the Principality Stadium, and we’d close at half-time so we could watch the second half of the games for free. One of my favourite memories is the 29–28 win over Australia in the 2021 Autumn Nations, the same year we last won the Six Nations. It’s been a steep downhill slide since.

4. How is the golf game coming along?

Surprisingly ok! I only started playing earlier this year and thought my 15 years of playing hockey would help, but instead I’ve been trying to unlearn the instinct to just absolutely hack the ball. Progress is progress, though, and I actually really enjoy it. I get down to the range as often as I can. I used to work at a golf club and never understood why people would voluntarily wander around in the freezing cold for hours — now I completely get it. The buzz is real.

5. Tell us about your vinyl collection and settle this one once and for all: What is the best David Bowie era?

My vinyl collection is one of my proudest possessions, especially the second-hand treasures that you can find in that still play perfectly. My holy grail project is collecting originals of every David Bowie release. Sounds manageable until you realise that’s 26 studio albums, nine live albums, 26 compilations and 128 singles. Young Americans is my favourite album. His soul/jazz phase doesn’t get the love it deserves, although Hunky Dory is a very close second place. As for the ‘best era’, the Ziggy Stardust years are untouchable for obvious reasons, and Aladdin Sane is iconic. So iconic that I have a tattoo of the album cover! But if we’re talking underrated brilliance, Young Americans wins for me every time.

6. Who is Monty and what is his claim to fame?

Monty is my family’s beloved cat, and his claim to fame is that he might just be the biggest cat in the world. No exaggeration, he’s bigger than a lot of dogs. He looks like a bully and that he could square up to other cats, but in reality, he’s the cuddliest boy and is scared of everything. He’s also a bit of a celebrity, having his own Instagram account where he shows off his huge range of bow ties. For the record, I do not run it.

7. Finally, you’re a champion of the lesser-visited tourist spot. With a passport in hand and a Ryanair-approved bag over the shoulder, where should we be heading to?

Browsing SkyScanner is my favourite hobby. I’ll find the cheapest flight going to some unheard-of destination every time, and honestly some of my best trips have come from doing exactly that. I love the lesser-known spots because that’s where the real hidden gems are.

Earlier this year, I went to Bosnia and it was incredible. Beautiful mountains, waterfalls, crystal clear lakes, and the some very friendly people too. Going off the beaten track always feels more like an adventure. While everyone else is heading to Bali or South America on their backpacking trips, I’m dreaming about the Stans. Central Asia in my opinion is massively overlooked – Uzbekistan and Tajikistan are high on my bucket list, and if you look up the landscapes, you’ll understand why.
